Urta Chirchik district- the administrative unit of Tashkent region. It was established in 1920, and included in Tashkent region in 1938. In 1992, it was renamed as Urta Chirchik.
The administrative center - Nurafshon town. Nurafshon submits to the region. Nurafshon town is located 4 km distance from Tuytepa railway station, in the highway of Tashkent- Kokan, 20 km distance from Tashkent in the south. In the western outskirts of the town, there was a fortification named Ulkantuytepa, it was destroyed because of adjusting the military unit to the historical monument in Soviet times. Ancient residence was researched by these archeologists: D.M Gremenitski- 1875, N. Primkulova, N.I Veselovski- 1884, I.I. Krause - 1890, members of TSLA- 1896, M.A Masson- 1928, A.A Potapov - 1929, F.Yu.Buryakov and S Ishankhanov - 1958.
Until now several archeological researches were carried out in the archeological monument and the Shakhristan was saved which is 20 hectares. Both cemetery and the Shakhristan were covered with the walls of defence and signs of four gates were kept well. The cultural layer of those areas is more than 10 metres. According to the archeological materials, it can be concluded that the area flourished in the first centuries of the era, in the 9-10 centuries and especially in the 11-12 centuries. It was famous with the name of Nuket and described in the novels of eastern geographers in the 11-12 centuries. It was the capital of the Ilak property in the period of time Karakhanids and it had a distinctive engraving. Meanwhile the researches, two Assyrians dating from 6th centuries and Zoroastrianism have been found. Nowadays it is kept in the museum of History of Uzbek Nations in Tashkent.
